Our Adventures

We have been busy around here. I am trying so hard to pack in some summer fun with the kids. I am soaking in the heat. I LOVE IT!! I could do without the daily rain showers, though. They always limit our time outdoors.

On Friday, I took the kids to play in the fountain at America the Beautiful Park. This is one of the best deals in Colorado Springs. FREE water play. It doesn't get much better than that. It is really so perfect for the kids because the water is so shallow, they can splash and play without worry of them going under. The bigger kids like it, too. If they get bored in the water, they can ride their scooters or go to the really cool playground.

Sam looks like he is in pain here.
I love little buns hanging out
(Notice I said, little. I do not like big buns hanging out, which I saw a lot of at Pirate's Cove)

My silly boy

Julie and Bailey went with us.
Abby was hanging out here with them.
On Sat., we decided to have some outdoor family fun. So, we loaded into the truck with snacks and drinks ready to do some mountain stuff. You know the usual, hiking, rock climbing, off roading. Our off-road adventure came to a halt just as we were pulling onto the road to Rampart Range. Our truck started smoking. It was not pretty.

We knew there was a grocery store nearby, so we headed over to get some coolant for the truck. Rick called the mechanic, and we were told to let it cool down for about an hour. So, our hike turned into a not-so-fun walk down the street.
This is the closest we got to rock climbing.
It is in the grocery store parking lot.
There was much complaining and whining on our not-so-scenic walk. Thank the Lord there was a Sonic on the way. We stopped for Slushes.
After about an hour, we decided to crank up the truck and take it to the shop. Well, that didn't happen. On the interstate, it died. We had to call a tow truck. Just in case you didn't know, you can't fit 8 people in a tow truck. Andrea and Dion came to the rescue!! Not only did they come to get us, but they also let us drive home with their van!! We have not had to go without a vehicle. That is a blessing!
We got some bad news today. Our truck needs a new engine. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about it. So, now we have a decision to make. Put in a new engine and get a lot more use out of it or get something different. There are pros and cons to both. We have had this truck for 9 years. It wasn't new when we got it. It was actually Rick's baby gift to me when we had Abby. It is old. We could get more life out of it with a new engine, but there are many things about it aesthetically that are wearing out. We are limited in the kinds of vehicles we can drive because of the size of our family. Oh, the joys of big decisions!!

Last night we got together with our life group(those that were in town). We did some grillin', some talkin', and the kids decided to entertain us. Isaiah and Avery put together a little show for us. In the show, they were getting married. Isaiah asked us for a "marry" song so we started humming the wedding march. He didn't like that. Then, we did "Going To The Chapel." At that pointed he looked at us, disgusted, and said, "I just quit."

I followed him out of the room and discovered that the "marry" song he was talking about was "We wish you a Merry Christmas." So, we sang, while he and Avery danced. It was hilarious.

I am really not sure why he has on a blindfold.
Maybe because the bride wears a veil.
I think he is confused on more than one level.
Laila showed us some moves as well
Abby, Micah, and Lauren did a show for us called "Do Not."
It was all about the evils of the cartoon, "Jake and the Neverland Pirates."
It was very eye-opening.
Isaiah did some more dancing in another dress while he sang, "Pump up the Jam."
Finally, today is Free Slurpee Day(7/11-get it?) So, with a friend over, we walked to our nearby 7-11 to take advantage of the deal.

Abby and Micah

The kids kept trying to convince me that we should go to another one to get more since they were so small. I didn't agree to it, but we saw many people doing that. They would pull up with one in their hands, finish it and go inside to get another one. I am not sure that is what 7-11 had in mind when they offered this deal.

That was our weekend. Please pray for us as we make this big decision about our truck. It feels a bit overwhelming!!
